There are 2 different ways to travel from Johannesburg and Tshwane (old Pretoria) to Phalaborwa. Route 1 is on the N1, which is a direct route that will take you through fewer towns. Route 2 is a more scenic route but the same distance as route 1. It will take you through more towns.

Route 1
From Johannesburg and Tshwane ( old name – Pretoria) on the N1 Freeway to Polokwane (old name – Pietersburg) From Polokwane (Pietersburg) take the R71, past Tzaneen and Gravelotte towards Phalaborwa. Just before you enter Phalaborwa  (3 km away) you will pass inbetween 2 big rocky mountains. Look for the Ingwe Park sign on the left hand side. The turn off will be on the right hand side. Once you have turned, keep left on a dirt road for 500 meters until you reach the Ingwe Park gate.

Route 2
At Johannesburg International Airport take the N12 East.
Take the N4 East and drive towards Witbank / Middelburg.
66 Kilometer after passing the town Middleburg you turn left onto the Belfast R33.
In Belfast turn right on the R540 and drive 37 kilometre towards Dullstroom
Pass through Dullstroom using the R540.  Drive further for another 43 kilometre towords Mashishing (old name Lydenburg)
Turn left when you reach the T-junction at Mashishing (old name Lydenburg)
You enter Mashishing with Viljoen Street.
Carry on with Viljoen Street and turn left in Voortrekker Street when reaching the robot.
Drive through Lydenburg and travel on for 47 kilometre towards Orighstad using the R36.
Drive through Orightstad and after plus minus 41 kilometre and drive past a junction on your right hand side.
Now you will enter the very steep Abel Erasmus Pass. Within 31 kilometer you will drive through the J.G. Strijdom Tunnel with a magnificent view of the Lowveld escarpment.
10 Kilometer after driving through the tunnel you turn left on the R36 heading towards Tzaneen.
After driving another10 kilometer turn right on the R530 traveling towards Mica.
After 29 kilometer turn left at the T-junction onto the R40 and travel towards Phalaborwa.
Drive another 5 kilometer on the R40 and pass the side junction  (R530) on your left. Travel another 34 kilometer until you reach a 4way stop street.
Cross the four way stop street and travel for another 6 kilometre until you reach a T-junction.
Turn right, you will pass inbetween 2 big rocky mountains. Look for the Ingwe Park sign on the left hand side. The Ingwe Park turn off will be on the right hand side. Once you have turned, keep left on a dirt road for 500 meters until you reach the Ingwe Park gate.
